The DGCA on Monday launched an investigation into the unexpected mid-air deployment of the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) on an Air India Boeing 787-8 flying from Amritsar to Birmingham. Flight AI 117 landed safely. The RAT, a small fan-like device, automatically generates emergency power when an aircraft loses all engine power.
